One of my favorite things to look at on Pinterest is abandoned architecture photos. There is something so eerily beautiful about places that time has forgotten. Abandoned amusement parks are a particularly creepy sub genre. What is it about these … Continue reading

The One Talk Everyone Must Watch This Week (even though it’s a little old)
I stumbled upon this video yesterday while browsing through 99u.com (I know I am obsessed). Cal Newport gives an excellent talk about the ways in which we develop passion and find satisfaction in our work. Check out: “Follow Your Passion” Is Bad Advice.
Infusing My Life with Herbs
This past weekend I spent all my time doing two things: 1. Writing down ally favorite herb infusion recipes from Pinterest and 2. Clipping fresh herbs from my patio garden here in beautiful Hawaii.
Below are the recipes I wrote down and my labors of love in making the most of my year round herb garden.
Herb Infused Vinegar
I use vinegar all over the house: washing my laundry, my daily shower spray, cleaning, etc. So I jumped at the opportunity to add a little herb magic to the already amazing elixir. Below is the recipe for getting your own amazing vinegar concoction.
Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 cups White Vinegar
- 2-1/2 cups Herb of Choice
Instructions:
Notes:
Only 1 week has past since I put together my infused vinegar so I will have to get back to you on how it turns out. I also did a second smaller batch with basil in a jar. I did not warm the vinegar for that batch because as it turns out I do not own a funnel, so I just poured it straight from the bottle. I will let you know if there is any notable difference between the two. Also check out my Cleaning board on Pinterest to see all the great natural cleaning recipes you can use your infused vinegar in!
Herb Infused Sea Salt
I love sea salt, and living here in Hawaii puts me in close proximity of some of the greatest sea salt EVER! So when I realized I could infuse this with my herbs I was all over it. I am planning on using this in some bath salts and salt scrubs!!
Ingredients:
- Herb of choice
- Sea Salt
Instructions:
- Place ingredients in food processor or herb chopper if you have one
- Blend until well incorporated (and enjoy the amazing smell!!)
- Pour onto baking sheet and spread evenly
- Cover with cheese cloth
- Dry in cool dark place 1 day
- Blend again
- Store in air tight container. Keeps 6 months.
Notes:
Blending the herbs and the sea salt helps evening distribute the herbs in the salt and it smells amazing. Blending the spearmint mixture smelled so amazing that I cannot wait to turn it into my next body scrub.
COMING NEXT WEEK:
- Oil infused baking soda
- Infused coconut oil (for body butter)
- Natural Dryer sheets w/lavender infused vinegar
How to Survive the Daily Grind
Only a few months in to my new grown up job, my body is starting to wear down. No, I’m not an olympic gymnast, I work at a desk. Now while I have many opportunities to leave during the day, which I take advantage of, much of my time is still spent on the computer. In case this describes you too, read the following article for some Yoga Hacks For The Office, provided by 99u.com.
